Band Biography

The Embers history dates back to 2003, when Andrew Gambling and Steve Jay first formed the band -described on their website as a rock/pop/acoustic/folk/alt-country type phenomena. Primarily, they write and perform their own original acclaimed music coupled with covers by many different artists such as The Beatles, The Kinks and the Jimi Hendrix Experience through to Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and Elvis through to Kings Of Leon and The Black Eyed Peas

The band is heavily influenced by artists such as Tom Petty, The Byrds, Counting Crows and Bruce Springsteen, especially through the use of vocal harmonies. As for what we listen to, this incorporates the above, but we do have varied tastes from Elvis to System of A Down.

The Embers are all about collaboration. Song ideas come in from each embermember, each with their own different musical style and taste, and these ideas are kicked around by the rest of the band until over a period of time, and after repeated kicking, the song takes shape and an original Embers tune is born. This loose process explains why our songs are sometimes difficult to categorise. Rock, country folk, soul & blues all go into the pot and you never quite know what you’ve got until the end, with all kinds of influences in turning up in the guitar styles.

The Embers are based in Horsham where they rehearse. They usually play in and around West Sussex and the surrounding counties notching up over a 100 gigs in the seven years the band has been together.

The Embers have several independent EPs and their first full length album, “Love…But in Reverse” under their belt, which you can pick up at their gigs as well as being available  as a free download.

They also contributed a song to a charity album called Songs for Phillip, which was put together to raise money for children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent. When radio DJ David ‘Kid’ Jenson reviewed the album he described The Embers’ song as having “timeless lyrics and catchy choruses.”

The band’s songs have been picked up by various American podcasters, and their website averages at 3,000 hits a week from across the world.

Reviews

“The Acoustic Stage day drew to a close with a set of mellow rock from the five-piece band, The Embers. Their well constructed and polished set capped a great afternoon of acoustic performances and successful first Music Festival venture for the HDLMA and HDC.
Here’s to next year’s festival and crop of local talent.”
